Dogs Available for Adoption

Kitty and K-9 Connection -- A New Leash On Life

Hello from Carol....Due to the number of calls received daily and busy schedules, please understand phone calls will be returned but it may be a week or a tad bit longer. Thanks for your patience, understanding and continual support of Kitty and K-9 Connection. critters and volunteers.

To alleviate some of the initial questions...there is an adoption fee of $150.00 for large dogs and $175 for small dogs, and home visits are required. If you reside outside the local area there are some different requirements...personal referrals, a vet referral, an agreement to be responsible for transportation (both ways if necessary) and a commitment to returning the pet to Kitty and K-9 if the placement does not work or your situation changes where you cannot keep the pet. Depending on the circumstances, there may be other requirements. Our commitment is to these orphaned critters we rescue...we devote tons of love, time, energy and money to their rescue, medical bills and care...our goal is to find them the very best placement with a lifetime commitment.

(If dogs are marked with a single *, call Carol at 345-2096 or kkc.carol@alaska.net. PLEASE DO NOT CALL CINDY ON DOGS, SHE DOES NOT HAVE INFORMATION ON THE ADOPTIVE DOGS.)

PATTY* - Yes...I am an adorable, two year old female Pit Bull...not an "exploded Boston Terrier" as I have been described. I was initially in Animal Control as a stray...like so many, I was just one of many Pit Bull Terriers waiting for an owner to claim me...which never happened. I was one of the lucky ones saved from euthanasia...with the huge numbers of Pit Bull's that end-up in Animal Control and so few owners available, the end results for many are not as positive. Thanks to several caring employees and volunteers at Animal Control (who worked desperately to "save" me), rescue intervened on my behalf. (I love my "angels" at Animal Control...apparently they saw what an awesome little gal I am!) I was called "Pistol Patty" at Animal Control, but my foster mom dropped "Pistol" saying "convicts can't have guns"...smile. I am very people friendly (but too much for small children), active, sometimes a bit over-eager (typical happy dog), entertaining, loves toys, walks nicely on a leash, playful, quite agreeable, adores hikes and walks, good house manners, rides well, learning not to "mouth" play with positive training, knows some basic commands and eager to please, so I try to learn quickly. I do have some skin issues that occurred before arriving at Animal Control, but staff, volunteers and donators rallied together to get me the treatment I needed. I am fine thanks to some caring friends, medication and good, quality food (fish and potato)...I have greatly improved. I am definitely more people oriented than other dog oriented, so can be a bit testy around other dogs (I settle down after a few days with patience and a muzzle). I would probably do best as an only dog. I am happy, delightful and would make a tremendous "upbeat" companion. Oh yes, forgot to mention...I am exceptionally cute too! If you are looking for an awesome, medium size (40 pounds) companion that would adore everything about you, be excited to be with you, love you with all her heart...I am the gal you are looking for. Let's get together soon...I am very eager to begin my new life and be your loyal, life-long companion!!

ZEB aka SITKA* - I am just over a year old, lively, playful, gentle natured, active and quite handsome...note my extremely blue eyes. I am a Husky/Pit mix who was initially placed as a puppy and returned to rescue when the family moved (in town). I do well with children, play with my canine friends but I stay close to my person too, playing "fetch-a-stick" in the water is awesome cuz I am very fond of swimming, people oriented, good house manners, kennel trained, enjoys long walks and hikes, would potentially be a great skijoring partner, fairly good off leash during walks and hikes, have some separation anxiety which improves as I settle in, tend to sing the Husky song occasionally and a terrific companion...so attentive and devoted. I'm great in the car...You can even park in the shade and leave me while you work (I'll sleep in the driver's seat and happily greet you when you come back to take me for a walk). I'm a very active guy, but I know how to relax too. Sleeping through the night is no problem...I'm comfy in my dog bed, though I'd rather sleep in yours. Mostly, I just want to be with you! My foster mom says I'm a great dog! I do miss my family and my children (who apparently are no longer mine). I definitely deserve a life-time commitment with a family that believes I am a "true family member", a good loving home and a family who will keep me active and well exercised...I am high energy and in foster care walk and hike three to six miles a few times a week...a tired puppy is a happy puppy!! In return, I will give you my whole heart...what more could you ask!

BLAZE* - I am an awesome, female, red-nosed Pit Bull Terrier who has experienced things in my life that most people cannot imagine...yet I hate no-one. I became a protected ward of Animal Control in April, 2005 when I was discovered covered in blood, on a short chain with both ears cut off with shears and no medical care. I was in protective custody for several months and eventually began to suffer anxieties from being kenneled so much. Eventually, rescue was allowed to take me out, foster me and find me my own home. First I went to live with a family with a little girl I loved. After a year, I was returned because they moved. I was then placed with a family that I again loved...but they were military and altho' they promised they would keep me forever, returned me when they rotated out of State. I was heart-broken both times...I miss the little girls in my life...they snuggle oh so well. Now I am back in rescue and somewhat confused. I would really love my own permanent home this time...all these unkept promises are too heart-breaking. I am about five years old, kennel trained, loves to ride, likes to go down slides and jump on a trampoline, knows basic commands (like off, sit, kennel, etc.), enjoys couch and bed sharing times (but will get down if required), gentle taking cookies, believes the most wonderful thing in life is to snuggle, has good house manners and adores children. I would do better with a male companion dog as I tend to want to be the "most important female dog" and things have gotten a bit intense with that issue. I do well with cats but do like to irritate them occasionally. I am very playful, attentive, happy and people oriented. I have done well in both homes (and seemed to be very loved) as a family member. I would love to have that experience again...Soon. My foster home is fine, but not my "family"...and I desperately need a family to love. I believe my dreams will come true and I will have my new life soon...if that is with you or you know a friend that will be good to me, please don't hesitate to let us know...I'm waiting.

TWEETY* - Adorable...yes! Friendly...yes! Well Behaved...yes! Loving...yes! What more can one ask for? I am a Poodle/Yorkie/Doxie mix who is approximately seven years old. I was owner released to Animal Control because they could not afford me. I have been passed around a bit from owner to owner off Craig's list, but no one wanted to be responsible enough to give me a life-time commitment. I had to have a dental (lost several teeth so my tongue hangs out a bit to one side now). So far the only complaint from my foster mom is that I can be a bit barky at times (true to my breeds). I have good house manners, ride well, very loving and attentive, cuddly, enjoys walks, great with adults and older children that are very dog-friendly (no small children), get along well with other dogs, playful, gentle natured and can be somewhat shy initially, but I really warm up quite well. I am truly a lap dog...I fit quite well on a lap and snuggle right in. Lucky me, I too got to go the momma Paula's house to foster...heavenly. Sometimes we need to stand up for what we want and need...I want and need a life-time commitment with a family who will truly love me. No more passing me around...it is too difficult to keep adjusting all the time. Life has been full of adventures and I am looking forward to the future...lots of sunshine, rainbows and puppy lovin's...the good stuff. Want to share all that with me?

JEREMY aka OLIVER* - I'm back! Seems I am destined to be in rescue, (sigh) but I really, really do want my own permanent home! I am a four year old Lab/Husky/Whippet Mix who was adopted as a puppy and returned to rescue four years later when they had their second baby. I got along with their first baby, so am not sure why they assumed I could not stay when the second baby came...go figure. I was recently placed in a delightful home with children...I became a bit too protective of the family for the comfort of the parents. I would have benefited from a dog training (which would have also trained my new humans), but that didn't happen. I admit, when I meet new people I am a bit fearful and when new people come to my home I tend to be "protective". Long story short, I made a mistake and got sent back to rescue right away. Apparently it was not my job to protect; there was a lack of communication and understanding. I am not a bad dog...I am actually quite a good dog! I just need assurance and training so I understand I do not have to respond to fear. I am kennel trained, ride well, great running and hiking companion, good house manners, very playful, not real barky, love to be petted and snuggled, handsome, do well with most dogs (except those feisty Jack Russell Terriers in my foster home...yikes), not bad with kids, some times shy but let me warm up and I share lots of licks with happy tail wags, know some commands, eager to please, learn and listen and quite loveable! I don't want to live in a foster home very long...I do need my own home with dog-wise parents who will give me definite guidance. I have had a few too many transitions in my life already but I have yet to lose faith in mankind. The right home for me just has not found me yet...please let them know I am waiting! We can share hikes in the sun, a long runs in the rain, car rides, camping, playing in the snow, couch time, etc...I will be there when things are tough and offer a warm nose and a sloppy tongue...I will be the excited "greeter" when you return home...I will be your bestest friend! I am a terrific guy! I have lots and lots to offer...in return all I ask is a life-time of love and companionship! We can be Great together!

CINDER* - Alone at Animal Control and terrible depressed, I waited the stray-days for my owners to come claim me...it was a long wait with no good outcome. Because I did not do well on the "food test" at Animal Control (a bit too assertive), I was listed for rescue...food has not been a problem in foster tho'. Once out of Animal Control, I was groomed, spayed and had a dental. I am generally a happy Lasha Apso mix who is about three years old. Want to know more about me? I am kennel trained, ride well, playful, do okay with one or two other dogs, fair house manners, not real barky, people friendly and focused, generally gentle natured, sad and a bit depressed at this point in my life but am perking up, cuddly and snuggly. I would do wonderfully well in an adult home or home with older dog-friendly children (no small children). This whole transition thing has been a terrible adventure for me...I need to feel loved and secure for the rest of my life. I absolutely cannot go thru' all of this again! Please consider adopting me as one of your family...commit to me and I will definitely commit to you...I will be soooo devoted. We could snuggle and watch TV, go on walks, take long car rides or sunbathe in the yard together. I have so much to offer that right someone!

DON* - Are you looking to adopt a handsome, well-mannered and cuddly red Miniature-Pinscher? I may be your man! I was rescued from the Fairbanks Animal Control after arriving there as a stray. It was deemed that rescue should intervene cuz I was a "bit nippy". I stepped off the airplane into my foster mom's arms the end of March. I am approximately eight years old, do well with other dogs, can be somewhat growly towards humans (initially) when they attempt to pick me up, have good house manners, great with adults and older children (not small children), very cuddly (once I get to know you), curious, kennel trained, snuggly, fond of sleeping on the bed, still spunky and playful, enjoys sunbathing, not real barky, not intrusive but loving and (for a Min-Pin) am fairly gentle natured. I am on the smaller side, but am sturdy and healthy. I do sport a Min-Pin attitude sometimes, so a familiarity with terrier breeds would behoove us both. I am seeking a loving family, maybe someone with another companion dog, who will spoil me and love me for a life-time. I can assure you that I will make quite an impression on you...I am just that type of guy. God granted me a second chance and I intend to take full advantage of that opportunity...please share this new life with me! Sponsored by Beverly Simmons

TROOPER (Gate)* - Boy do I have a story to tell you. I was loved and cherished for four years of my life by a wonderful daddy who doted on me. When he died, his loving sister took on the responsibility of caring for me for the next four years. Because we lived in a remote area with no veterinary care available, it was difficult to obtain any medical treatment I required. Reluctantly, I was owner released and shipped to Anchorage into rescue because my tearful mommy felt it was "best" for me. I lucked out because my rescue/foster mom adores Toy Fox Terriers in-spite of the fact that we tend to be a very quirky little breed. Initially living in the pack of foster dogs was a bit overwhelming for me, but I adjusted, gathering up my courage and showing my terrier 'tude...I was still a little dog with a big dog attitude afterall. I had a dental (lost a few teeth) and spent a little over a month trying to clear up both infected ears. I am also taking supplements to help my joints and hips. Altho' I am eight years old with some hip issues, I get around great, am able to jump up on lower furniture and am still quite active. I am a bit tentative with new people, but warm up; enjoy adults and older children (no small ones) and am extremely devoted. I tolerate those kissie kiss dog lovers (I like it but try not to let anyone know...gotta keep that manly terrier image), am not real barky, kennel trained but do not need to be kenneled, happy to be your loving companion, not intrusive but fond of lap-time, sleeps soundly on the foot of the bed, thrilled to ride, a bit bossy with big dogs, okay with a dog-wise cat, truly gentle natured (until ear medicine time), a bit comical and secretly a favorite because I am delightful (according to my previous and foster moms). If you like terriers, I bet we would do well together. I am an awesome little man who will warm your heart and make you smile. We could be soul mates, bestest friends, good companions, sleep buddies and couch potatoes together...what a team we would make!
HERSHEL* - Adopted from rescue eight years ago by a loving, caring mom, I was extremely happy and content with my life. Life was wonderful until unexpectedly my mom slowly deteriorated due to Alzheimers; she began forget to take care of both of us. Eventually her care became more complicated and it was determined I needed to return to rescue. It was a heart-breaking separation for both of us...and I still miss her warm loving arms that cuddled me all those years. Due to her forgetfulness, I had lots of medical to catch up on...my dental has been completed, weight loss has been accomplished and I am healthier than ever. I am a larger, nine year old Miniature-Pinscher who is people oriented, friendly and very gentle natured. I have good house manners, kennel trained, enjoy walks and hikes but really love snuggle time, rides well, do well with other dogs and okay with the dog-wise cat, happy and active, very attentive, not real barky and an absolutely fantastic companion. Altho' some people shy away from "senior" dogs, I will tell you true that I have lots of great years to share with a loving adult home or home with older children (but no small children). You would make my heart soar and my nubby wag if you gave me the opportunity of a life-time and accepted me as part of your loving family...my dream would come true!

EVYTTA* - Yes...I am as adorable as I look in my picture. Imagine being the proud parent of an absolutely beautiful wired haired Jack Russell Terrier...oh yes, we can make this happen cuz I am available for adoption...surprise! I am a two year old little lady who was rescued from Animal Control because I tend to be a bit too bossy with small children...that was a flag for a rescue requirement. I have been bounced around through about four homes in my two years of life...people think I am cute but apparently they failed to research Jack Russell Terriers; misjudging the activity level and nature of the terrier breeds. I am proud to be a terrier...it is my nature. I happen to be easier-going than most of my breed. I do well with other dogs, cats don't seem to trust me much tho', kennel trained, ride well, terrific companion who adores lap-time and cuddles oh so very well, good house manners, loves walks and hikes..."lets go" is music to my ears, very devoted and happy to spend time with you, treat oriented, knows most basic commands (but tend to choose when and which ones to listen to), am extremely smart, not real barky (surprise), happy, fun-loving, extremely playful (tennis ball oriented) and such a sweet, loving 'tude...yet still busy and somewhat bossy at times (those terrier traits). A tired dog is a happier dog, so understand I will need plenty of expercise with a good sprinkle of loving patience. I would do extremely well with an active family with no small children. Terriers are not for everyone...but I know there is that right someone for this terrier. At the end of my rainbow is a family to love...have you seen any rainbows lately, cuz I am anxiously waiting!?!

FIONA SHEYE* - I am on medical status...it is unknown when the veterinarian will release me for placement. Yes, I am physically as pitiful as I look! Initially I was adopted from Animal Control (less than a year ago) and I was healthy. I was recently returned in terrible health, just skin and bones, with the note “not enough time for her”. You can count all my ribs, my legs and tail are skin and bones, my neck barely holds up my skeleton head, I have lots of hair loss, my toenails were grown into my pads and I poop out everything I eat…I am constantly starving. My owner did not take me to a vet…she waited until I was almost dying and took me back to Animal Control. The staff there were horrified…rescue was called and off I went to the vet. (Just a little note; I gather from all the ranting and raving that my rescue/foster mom was a bit pissed about my condition and the fact that cruelty charges were not being considered against the owner). I am less than a year old and weigh less than ten pounds (Boston Terriers usually weigh fifteen to twenty pounds). Apparently, my pancreases stopped processing as it should and I am just simply starving to death. According to my vet, it is an easy fix by putting enzymes on my food…it will be a requirement for the rest of my life. In spite of all of this, I am extremely sweet, loving, cuddly and love to get warm under blankets. I am a happy girl with lots of love and snuffles to share. I have a great foster home; apparently I can expect to be here for quite some time due to my extensive medical condition. When I am finally available for adoption, I will need a committed family, one that will ensure I am truly loved and willing to adhere to my daily medical requirements.

SYING-YANG* - You wonder how in the heck a shy, cute little guy like me ended up in the night drop pens at Animal Control right? Well...so am I. I am a Chinese Crested (powder puff) who is approximately four or five years old. Oh so very scared and timid at Animal Control...I shook so hard I vibrated. I barely made it thru' the stray-day requirements without heart failure from fear. I was swept away into rescue and off to the vet. I lucked out and ended up in the premier foster home (momma Paula's house)...puppy heaven! Initially I remained shy, but eventually began to blossom. I perked up and joined life again...wagging my tail and making myself at home. I am very handsome now because I have been groomed. I did not do so well initially on a leash, but am improving and absolutely adore my "walkies" now. I have discovered wonderful things in life like sleeping on the bed, playing with other dogs, car rides, barking occasionally (but not too much), snuggles and cuddles, kisses (so what if kisses aren't "manly"...I love them anyway), adores going to doggy-daycare with my foster brother (Chevy), puppy-pad trained and my heart sings when I get warm lovies. I would do really well in an adult home or home with older children who are dog-friendly and kind (no small children). Wouldn't you love the experience of watching me blossom and discover the wonders of life? With all my new experience, I am discovering how fantastic life can be...so many adventures we can share and so much love. I believe that brighter days are ahead for me...are they with you?

DAPHINE**- Okay, looks can be very deceiving! You may think I look like an average seven and a half year old Dachshund but once you get to know me, I am sooo much more...I am actually a Dachshund/Beagle mix. I am lengthy and short legged like a dachshund but my tail, ears, feet and body have more of the Beagle characteristics. Oh, did I forget to mention my most distinctive Beagle trait? I "bay" very loudly just like a hound dog….quite cute really! I was dumped at Animal Control because “they didn’t have the time to take care of me anymore.” At Animal Control it was discovered that I had a good size hernia that needed to be repaired with my spay...rescue stepped in to help. I am a very friendly girl who warms up very quickly...especially if you have a treat, but beware I'm still working on not snapping treats out of your hand. I am very people friendly (but not so tolerant with little people). I antagonize the cats a bit much...the beagle in me wants to hunt them and bay at them...I hear "leave it" a lot in my foster home cuz I have a few cats to irritate for fun. I have fairly good house manners (do not require a kennel), can be a bit of a couch and bed hog (might steal your covers...wouldn’t mind having a family of my own to share them with tho'), play well with other dogs (but at times, like to be the dominant dog) and actually very sweet as well as comical...I have the cutest little fat butt checks you have ever seen...you should check them out!! I can’t wait to make a great addition to that right family. Are you my mother?...or father? I would be delighted to meet you!!

IKE MALONE* - I am a recent return to rescue...man is life confusing. I am a five and a half year old, male, Poodle/Pom mix. I am very friendly...and very needy. Initially a lady took me because someone else was giving me away. She then decided that she could not keep me, so she gave me to rescue. I was placed in a very loving home with a wonderful new mom right away. I lived with her for eight months...during that time her work changed and I was spending more time in boarding (while she traveled) than at home. Eventually she resigned herself to the fact that her situation was not fair to me...so sadly, I am back in rescue. I am very cuddly, playful, active (would love to take walks and hikes), do well with other dogs and cats, somewhat needy, a bit of anxiety when left alone, a bit barky, great companion, very people friendly (but not little children oriented), good house manners, non-shedding (require grooming) and cute. I am an extremely devoted companion who is longing to bond and be loved. Life is full of adventures...I have shared those adventures in several homes...now I am very ready to find my final, life-time home and settle in. Bouncing from home to home has been too much for me...I need to know my heart is safe forever and won't be broken again. If you are seeking a buddy that will warm your hearts and laps, give you all the devotion you can ever imagine and make you smile as I prance and dance around your feet and adore you from below, I am your guy!

ENYETO aka JUBAL* - I was rescued from Animal Control in the fall of 2007 as a puppy and named Enyeto (which means "walk like a bear"). I was adopted…my name changed to Jubal (which means "rams horn or musician). I was a happy puppy...loved and cared for...life was great. Sadly, I just recently was returned to rescue because my parents left the State and me behind. Everyone was very surprised at their decision–especially me. I am a one and a half year old, male Saint Bernard/Boxer mix. I am very people and child friendly, know basic commands, good with other dogs and cats, rides well, loves walks and runs, good house manners, requires higher quality food or prone to ear yeast infections, not barky, playful, loving, large in size and heart, would love a fenced yard to play and run, gentle natured and just a great all-around guy for a puppy!!! I was glad not to be abandoned again...rescue took me back, will love me and help find me a new home. You can help…pass the word…I need a home…smile...maybe it is your home? Open your heart to the endless joys we can share.

MAURESE* - So why was a four year old, handsome, Apricot, Miniature Poodle (weighing about 20 pounds) owner released to Animal Control you ask? According to my previous owner, I was too difficult to have groomed and therefore, was too expensive to keep. I am a bit fearful of grooming and will need a experienced, patient groomed who understands some of us respond a bit negatively to the grooming experience. The problem is...I am a Poodle and will require regular hair styling and grooming...yuck!! Otherwise, I am not very barky (but do like to talk with you), have great house manners, kennel trained (but not really necessary), love car rides, enjoy walks and outings, respond well to treats (Yummmm)...but admit I will eat them until I am chunky (oops), still shy around other dogs (prefer human lovin') and truly believe lap-time is the ultimate joy. I definitely am seeking an adult home or home with older children (no small children) who will be willing to commit to me (and my quirks) for a life-time, pamper me as a Poodle should be pampered and allow me to share my heart fully with someone again. I have been rather lost in this transition...I could not go through this again. I am a terrific little guy who only desires to warm your lap and win your heart.

HIGGINS* - Charming, loving and sorta needy would describe me quite well. I am a handsome, three and a half year old, apple-headed Chihuahua who adores lap-time, paws you for constant attention, tends to scream when you leave the room (we are working on that one) and believes life is nothing without the one you love. I am definitely seeking an adult home or home with older children (my previous experiences with children placed me at risk and a broken bone, so absolutely no small children). I have a huge, loving heart, adore and cherish lap time and bed-time on the bed, can look oh so pitiful to get attention (I have honed that skill well), kennel trained (altho' I don't like it much), rides well, good office buddy (unless left alone...then I tell everyone that I am lonely), gets along well with other dogs (but can be a bit lap protective at times), the most awesome, adoring companion anyone could ever have and rather "handsome" (if I can say so myself). Altho' I am still young, I do have the early stages of cataracts in my left eye...there is a potential I may go blind in that eye, but there is no prediction as to when. Life so far has handed me more thorns than roses, but I know a rosier future is definitely in store for me. I have soooo much to give...altho' small, I can out-love a giant. We can fulfill our dreams together...and life can blossom for the two of us as we share our joys, friendship and stop to smell the roses together.

HENRY* - In life we learn to accept and adjust to change...it happens. In my nine years of life, I believed each change has a reason, one should always be open to change and not all changes are good but wait long enough things will change again. I had what I believed was a good loving home...only to discover I was on my way to Animal Control because they did not want to be bothered with me while moving nor did they care if I was euthanized...what a surprise to me. My guardian angel and (now) foster mom, Kit, was in the parking lot of Animal Control when she stepped in on my behalf. Unaware of what life had in store for me, I bravely jumped into her car and her life. In her loving care, I have had a dental, a growth removed from my eye lid and neck, ear medication for infections, weight loss (which I needed) and lots of kindness...wow...I discovered things I did not know I should have missed!! I am healthier and happier...ready now for my own family to love. I get along well with other dogs, good house manners, rides well, very people friendly, not real barky, still active but have slowed down some in life so the couch cushions are mighty comfy, not intrusive and very much "that special devoted companion" kinda guy. I am a larger Pom who would enjoy a quieter home life (no small children please) with a family who likes to take walks and would enjoy some snuggling. Don't let my age detour you...keep in mind you are getting older too...I have no intension of dying anytime soon cuz I still have lots more "changes" to experience in life...one of those changes could be a wondrous change...we could become true companions and life friends.

PRINCE* - Okay...I admit, I do look a bit pitiful, but do not let that fool you. After all my medical issues were addressed, I am a healthy and happy nine year old Chihuahua who absolutely adores lap-time and warm blankets. You may wonder about my medical issues...well, I have a level four heart-murmur (yes, this will shorten my life), one of my front declaws was removed due to potential cancer issues, a cyst was removed from my hip, my spine is slightly fuzed so I walk a bit hunched (but it does not hinder me from walking, running or jumping), during my dental it was discovered my jaw is weak from being broken (requiring soft food) and I have hair loss (assumed to be due to poor nutrition). Thru' it all, I have continued to be a prancing, happy and loving little guy...how can I complain, I finally got the medical treatment I should have had quite some time ago...now I have the chance to be "healthier and happy". I was owner released to rescue because no one wanted me...I had been passed around...I don't know what happened to my original owners. I am doing well, but would really love to have my own home (without small children), lots of love, snuggles and cuddles, healthy food and maybe a non-intrusive smaller doggy buddy. I am kennel trained, have good house manners, do fairly well with other dogs, cats are okay, not real barky, sleeps on the bed rather comfortably, active and healthy. I would really thrive in an adult home with lots of love and someone who will not be embarrassed to be seen with a "pitiful" looking little guy...looks aren't everything you know! I have lots of love to share with you...my heart is huge! I am dreaming of the day I can begin my life with that right someone who will love me inspite of my looks, health issues and age!

AUGIE* (the doggie) -I showed up at Animal Control in early June of 2008...what a mess I was. I was nearly hairless, my ears were split, my skin raw, scabby, sore and infected, eye infections, etc. I looked and felt horrible...deemed "not adoptable", rescue was called. It has taken awhile but I am much better and would love to finally have the opportunity for my own home. I am a sweet, lap-hugging, three year old (?), male Miniature Pinscher who still has his ears and tail (and I like it that way). I will need to be on a "good food" diet (no beef or wheat) throughout my life-time so I won't get itchy or be prone to additional infections. I am kennel trained, fair house manners, cuddly and snuggly, not real barky, people friendly (no smaller children), loves to run with the other dogs and play, can be a bit bossy with other dogs and my people at times, a bit too interested in the cats, can wag my tail better than most (cuz I have one to wag...smile), somewhat independent and I make the best lap warmer anyone could ever want or need. I know I come with some issues...but they aren't insurmountable. I have improved with a good diet and will continue to improve with lots of love and health-caring parents. I have to admit...after months of treatment...I do not like to get ear drops, eye drops, medication rubs, etc. anymore...(altho' I like tummy rubs)...I do argue a bit now cuz I am just darn tired of the whole mess...do you blame me? Bet not. I may still look a bit pitiful, but don't let that fool you...I am a great little guy...I will inundate you with lap-time...endear you with a touch of attitude and convince you that life with me is a challenge you just cannot resist. Terriers come in many shapes and sizes with a variety of personalities and attitudes...I may not be the dog for everybody...but I am definitely the dog for that right somebody. I'm just awaiting for ya!!! Come and get me!!

BUBBA LOU & BAILEY LEE* - We are the cutest Miniature Pincher/Doxie mixes you will ever see...oooh - how can you resist! Both of us were taken to Animal Control (after five years of living with a loving mommy) because she could no longer afford us...she was heart-broken. She then called and requested rescue intervene on our behalf to ensure we were placed together...we are siblings who are bonded and have been together since our beginning. We are five years old, male (Bubba...red) and female (Bailey...black and tan), are very sweet to people (but do not do well with small children), do well with other dogs (altho' Bailey can be a bit bossy), adore lap-time and snuggles, good house manners, huggable for hours, darn cute, play together very well, love sleeping on the bed (oh yes and under the covers), kennel trained, ride well, not real barky, happy and gentle natured, plays with toys and absolute love bugs...it is hard not to love us!!! As you can guess, we are expecting to live together in our new home...with a family who will love and adore us forever. In turn...we will bestow so much love and affection on you that you will think we are syrupy sweet little babies. We are awesome and come highly recommended by our foster parents. If you have room for two (we are small), maybe we can get together soon!

LOLLI & LAYRD* - Animal Control was a bit scarey for us...we needed to be rescued. We were taken to Animal Control because our family could not afford us anymore. About us: Lolli...I am a Chocolate and tan, cubby little female who is five years old. Layrd...I am a black and gray-faced male who is about seven years old. We are both Chihuahuas. We are very people friendly (not little people tho'), adore lap-time and snuggles, are fairly bonded to each other (altho' Lolli is a bit more dominate and Layrd a little shy), cute and comical, kennel trained, sweet natured, happy little souls, we love to give puppy kisses, great companions and oh so sweet. We would really like a home together where we can bestow our love on people who appreciate us and love us back. We are heart warmers and true love-bugs. We are small, so we don't take up much room...but we will fill your heart with joy. Think of us, consider us and then adopt us...you won't believe how wonderful we will make your life.

SHUG*- A few years back I was rescued from Animal Control and was placed with a very loving family. I loved them as much as they loved me and we were happy until recently. I was tearfully returned to rescue do to financial issues (they lost their jobs and then our home). It was not an easy choice, but one they had to make. I also needed some medical care they could not afford...back to my rescuer was probably the best option. I have had my medical issues addressed (lost fifteen teeth with my dental) and am healthy. I am a handsome six and a half year old Pom who likes people (not little people tho'), does well with most dogs (smaller breeds), kennel trained, likes to ride, good house manners, can be a bit barky at times, loves lap-time and snuggles, am very handsome and delightful, somewhat needy, good office companion and love to scurry around the back yard just having fun. I would truly like to be back in my own home, but that is not an option...so I am waiting for that right someone who will love me and cherish me again. I will make you smile as you strut around with such a handsome little guy...I too will strutt with happiness. If you can love me as I can truly love you, please don't delay to unite our lives for a life-time.

FERGIE* - Initially I was discovered on Craig’s List and it was determined I would be a good “gift” for an out-of-state daughter. Before sending me out of state, there were issues that needed to be addressed and they were..I lost lots of weight--seven pounds (I was a bit of a tubby at 21 pounds), was debarked (for non-stop barking), puppy-pad trained and there were ongoing attempts to socialize me (with limited improvements as I still bark, occasionally nip and tend to be lap protective). After all of this, I was owner released to rescue because the daughter got a puppy instead. As you can see, I am an adorable, two year/four month old, tweenie (between mini and standard) size Doxie who loves to ride, treat oriented, kennels well, plays good with other dogs, enjoys playing in the fenced yard (but will run away in a flash if turned loose), adores blankie and lap time and looks cute “dressed up”. A diet is a must cuz I will eat until I explode (so no free-feeding), men are most generally scary, I do not tolerate small children well and I do still sorta bark non-stop (just not as loud). I've been displaced three times now in the last few months and really want to bond with someone special...can become very devoted (and protective) rather quickly. My heart is huge, I'm adorable, my happiness genuine and my need for my own loving, life-time home truly overwhelming. To everyone involved in my rescue and care, I send my love and puppy kisses. All I ask is that you help me find my own special home where I can share all my love, heart and soul...and I will truly appreciate the same in return.

GAYLOR* - I'm a tall Jack Russell Terrier with a lot of heart…I even have a "heart" spot on my check. I am three years old, am busy, love toys (especially Kongs), believes "fetch" is the game everyone should want to play, kennel trained, gets along fairly well with other dogs, antagonizes the cats, likes to ride, fun loving, enjoys occasional lap time, good house manners and would be a great exercise program for you. I was rescued from Animal Control; I was a stray that no one claimed. I need an active home without small children, a fenced yard would be great, lots of exercise and someone who understand and knows terriers. If given the chance, I will be the leader of the pack, so I do need a strong owner…one not afraid to step in to provide correction. Squirt bottle correction does not work because I love water. Taking me to dog training classes should be a requirement. I am loveable and have a great personality…just a bit full-of-myself, which is definitely a trait for a Jack Russell. I am really looking forward to finding the right home and getting started with my life with someone who will love and cherish me. We can have lots of fun!

ROK* - Have you ever seen such a handsome Miniature Pinscher/Manchester Terrier before? I know you have not! I was surprised to find myself at Animal Control where I was owner released because they were "moving". I could understand why such a thing would happen to me or why I would be "dumped" after six years of devoted companionship. I am an awesome six year old…well behaved, kennel trained, not intrusive but like lap time and companionship, fairly quiet, good house manners, get along well with other dogs, enjoy irritating the cats a bit, like to take rides and walks and generally a very good natured gentleman. Altho' I do okay in foster care with the other dogs, my true desire is to find my own home where I can settle down and share the rest of my life with people who care and can appreciate me. I would do really well in an adult home or home with older children…a fenced yard would be a bonus too. Adopt me and you can't go wrong…personality wise, I am different than most terriers. I am a gentleman who would make an excellent companion and make you a proud owner.

ZOA* - Cute, adorable and very active would describe me perfectly. I am a nine month old Pit Bull/Husky mix. I do well with smaller dogs in foster (but a bit fearful and nippy with larger dogs), am playful, happy natured, kennel trained, fair to good house manners, would benefit from continual socialization and doggy training classes, ride well, not real barky, love attention and cuddly. I am a puppy, so still do some of those puppy things (like try to sit on your lap and lick), but learn quickly and respond to a squirt bottle. I would blossom in an active home that has puppy patience and time to train me. I would excel in an adult home or home with older children...I am a bit bouncy for little ones. Walks and hikes would be wonderful...a tired puppy is a better behaved puppy. Another dog to play with would be a huge bonus. So many things have happened to me in my short life, so I really want a life-time home with lots of love and permanency. I'm looking forward to having the best time of my life with you.

MARVIN* - Initially I was rescued from Animal Control. I went to live with a wonderful mom, Judy (my foster mom's best friend for 34 years). My mom was diagnosed with cancer…sadly her life is ending. I was very protective so the hospice care-takers had difficulty…I had to come back to rescue. I am a handsome five and a half year old Schipperke/Spitz mix who is definitely protective in nature. I am loving and adore lap time, very devoted, good house-manners, kennel trained, love to ride, entertaining with my attitude and prances, not intrusive, not real barky and quite good-looking (if I say so myself). I do tend to be nippy and barky when I am in the protective mode. I would do best in an adult home. I love to be outside and burrow into the snow, take walks or hikes. I can be a couch potato or an active little guy…whatever you feel like doing, I will be glad to join you. I know that my momma misses me (and I truly miss her) but we would both be happier knowing I have a life-time home.

MEDFRED* - Lost and scared, I was taken to Animal Control as a stray. Surprisingly, no-one claimed me. I am approximately eight years old, a Toy Fox Terrier, loves to sit on laps (but hates kisses and not real cuddly), sleeps on the bed, has fairly good house-manners, kennel trained, does okay with cats, a bit bossy sometimes with other dogs but most generally gets along, a bit barky at times and shines as a companion (I excel at that job). I have a deformed front leg (which I use, but limp); it was determined to be an old injury that was not cared for appropriately years ago. It does not seem to bother me; it is just a bit shorter than the other with a bow in the bone structure. I really need an adult home only. I require security and safety...for that I promise to give a lifetime of companionship and warm laps. I realize I am considered a senior dog and that is most generally the reason I have not been adopted. Us senior dogs need good, loving homes too! In my opinion, I still have lots of time to share with a new family...and be assured it will be a wonderful experience for all!

GRADY* - Sitting at Animal Control day after day began to get to me, but rescue stepped in and bailed me out. I was oh so happy to be out of Animal Control, but not too ecstatic about being in rescue. Apparently, the white coloring on my muzzle gave potential adopters the impression that I am older than my five years of age...I am still quite young and active. About me: a five year old Rat Terrier, fair house manners, kennel trained, do fairly well with other dogs (but my terrier nature sets me up to be bossy sometimes), happy, loving, a lap buddy but not real intrusive, handsome, love to ride, great on walks or hikes (my favorite activity), fairly obedient and playful. A family with older children or an adult home would be the right placement for me. If you need an enthusiastic companion that will go for walks, rides or just hang out together, then I know I am the buddy you have been looking for. Giving me a chance in your heart and home would be wonderfully beneficial for both you and me...I can't lie, I appreciate my foster home and it is okay, but not really for me. Living in transition sort of sucks! I truly desire a home and people of my own...security and knowledge that I will be loved and cared for throughout my lifetime...Wow what a life that would be!

MIKE* Okay...I may be a bit senior (approximately nine years old), but I am very active and lots of fun. A toy Fox Terrier who was also at Animal Control and very fearful. Rescue was my only option...and what a challenge this has been for me. I am a typical terrier who gets along with dogs my size but has to boss the bigger dogs and torment the cat...I am familiar with the squirt bottle now. Qualities include kennel trained, fair house manners, playful, cuddly but not intrusive, snuggler in bed, not very barky, happy to have lap time but the back of the couch is okay too, seem fragile but am actually hardy, full of life and curiousity, a bit pushy for people food (alto' not real successful) and willing to endure kisses. Living in my foster home has been fine, but I am truly desiring my own home (without small children)...I look forward to bonding with a family who will love me for a lifetime. Keep in mind that "senior" may be physical but not always a state of mind...I believe I am still fairly youthful. The joys of life keep me happy and entertained. I know I can do the same for you if you find room in your heart for me.

ZIN* (affectionately called "Tella Tubby") was taken to Animal Control when his disabled mom could no longer care for him. He definitely made everyone chuckle...aged and chubby...what a combination. This ten year old Chihuahua weighed in at 22 pounds...he has lost weight and gets around much better. He had to have hernia surgery and a dental; also antibiotics was necessary due to a skin infection. He is a happy and well-adjusted chubby buddy who only wants to be loved and to please. He is fairly quiet, kennel trained, has fairly good housemanners, can jump up on the couch (amazing), puts your legs to sleep but still loves laptime, loves to be petted and cuddled. This hefty little guy is a treasure and would be a wonderful addition to the right home. He will be placed in an adult home. He will also need to be on a diet, which is obvious...a few walks would be beneficial also. His happy-go-lucky attitude makes him so very endearing. If you have it in your heart to share your home with an older, but extremely wonderfully sweet chubby guy...this could be the buddy for you!!

JOHNSON* - First and foremost, I enjoy life. I am a happy and chubby eight year old Miniature Pinscher. My foster family chuckles at me regularly because sometimes I do goofy things that make them laugh. I am kennel trained, love lap-time (but have to be lifted up because I am a bit bottom heavy), get along well with other dogs (still like to play), fairly good housemanners, a bit clumbsy, a great lap warmer and delight in life itself. I would thrive in a home that would share their hearts and love. Small children are not an option but I would do well with older children. I am healthy (other than my weight) and food oriented. Altho' I am considered a senior dog, I know I have lots of good years to share with the right person(s). I give my all and know you can only appreciate the great qualities I have to offer.

JILLY* - Recently it was noted that my bio has been incorrect for awhile...so I thought I would amend my bio so you really know about me (and not Grady). Initially my brother and I were rescued from Animal Control and placed in a home together. We lived with the family for about two years and suddenly we were taken back to Animal Control because they had "too many dogs"...we were the only two initially when we came to live with them. We came first and we went first...we have no idea why. At first in foster, it was assumed we needed to be placed together because we had always been together. After we spent time in an active foster home, we discovered new friends and depended less on each other. Joe was eventually placed with an absolutely wonderful mom...and he is perfectly happy living in "senior" housing. I have been patiently waiting for my opportunity to have own home and someone to love. I have been in foster care a year now waiting...but I believe it will happen for me someday soon! I am a 6.5 year old Miniature Pinscher/Manchester and something else (maybe Rat Terrier) mix. I am tall, weigh about fifteen pounds, loving, not intrusive but absolutely adores lovies and pets, enjoys sitting beside you on the couch while you watch TV, rides well, requires a fenced yard (I do not potty well on a leash), kennel trained, not real barky, prefers another "low-key" companion dog to live for company as I am not used to being lonely but I am not a playful dog myself, easy going and very gentle natured. I might have some difficulties with transition...I have been in my foster home for a long time...so a bit of patience and kindness would be terrific. I bond easily and love with all my heart. I would love an adult home or home with older dog friendly children (no small kids please)...a family who loves to take walks or hikes, snuggle and hang-out together...one that will give me a true chance to have a life-time family to trust and love again. I will continue to wish upon a star and dream someday I will have my own happy family...will you help me make my dreams come true?
