Kitty and K-9 Connection -- A New Leash On Life

Cats now available for adoption… (If pets are marked with a single * call Cindy at 344-2063 or kittyandk-9@gci.net, for two ** call Sue at 688-4484 or igloocat@mtaonline.net, for *** call Carol at 345-2096 or kkc.carol@alaska.net.

To alleviate some of the initial questions...there is an adoption fee of $100.00 for adult cats and $150.00 for kittens, and home visits may be required. If you reside outside the local area there are some different requirements...personal referrals, a vet referral, an agreement to be responsible for transportation (both ways if necessary) and a commitment to returning the pet to Kitty and K-9 if the placement does not work or your situation changes where you cannot keep the pet. Depending on the circumstances, there may be other requirements. Our commitment is to these orphaned critters we rescue...we devote tons of love, time, energy and money to their rescue, medical bills and care...our goal is to find them the very best placement with a lifetime commitment.

AMELIA* - I am a DLH Blue Point Siamese female who landed in Animal Control as a stray. I had been there for awhile but everyone kept passing me up, not taking the time to get to know me and see my award winning personality. Althought I am about 10+ years old, I have lots of life left in my. I love to sit in your lap, and I have lots to say. I am a non-stop talker. I do well with other cats and would make a great companion for that certain someone.

TARA*** - Small, sweet, friendly tabby girl who was rescued by VCA Alpine Animal Hospital after she was hit by a car. She is about three years old, lost her tail and her litter of kittens in the accident. She is not a skitty-kitty altho' shy at first she becomes very out-going without much transition time and oh so friendly. This cute little lady does well with dogs and other cats, small, not real vocal, active, curious and playful. She might be the perfect companion for someone who would delight in a small, loving kitty.

O'BRIEN* is a beautiful DLH male approximately 5years of age. DECLAWED on all four feet. Is very friendly and gets along well with other cats. Ideal home would be someone who lives in a small space or in an assisted living home. After being in trial placement and returned, it seems that O'Brien would be happier in a home with a woman, no men, no kids and no dogs.

JADA** I am a 2-1/2 yr old female medium hair dilute torti. Last year a kind lady rescued me and my kittens (who have long ago been adopted). I like to sit where I can observe everything and receive your admiration by being petted each time you walk by. I’m fairly tolerent, but have a bit of a torti attitude. I like brushing, but don’t really tolerate it when a tangle needs to be combed out...and hate to have my claws cut. I haven’t learned to give signals before I get mad, so my new owner would need to keep a close eye on me for very subtle signals and have a quick hand. I do tend to bite sometimes when I get pushed too far. Cuddling for short periods of time is nice. I can be a good lap sitter and can be really nice when I want to be. I like to play; a couple of my favorite toys are the laser pointer and the undercover mouse. I am ok with other cats, but would like to be an only cat or have only 1 other buddy. Dogs are ok too, as long as they don’t chase me; I have very sharp claws and will use them if I need to. No Children please. I know I am not the right cat for a lot of people, but isn’t there someone out there that will give me a chance to be all the cat I can be?

BONNIE** is a 3-4 yr old declawed female. Very sweet and playful. Loves to snuggle. Prefer to go to new home with her best buddy Clyde.
CLYDE** is a 2-3 yr old declawed male. Very sweet and playful. Likes to burrow under the covers and sleep next to you if you let him. Prefer to go to new home with his best buddy Clyde.

MISSY** I am a young senior citizen lady, about 9 or 10 years old. My beautiful long black and white hair is soft as a bunny, and easy to take care of. I was left behind at the parents’ house, mostly outdoors to fend for myself, when my owner left for college. They called KKC (cuz they knew my foster mom) when it was time to move and now here I am living in a foster home with 2 dogs and 15 other cats. I have been here for almost 2 years, and am ready for a home of my own. I don’t mind the other cats, but would prefer to be by myself or maybe with 1 other kitty. Dogs are ok especially if they don’t chase me. I’m a great lapwarmer and like to lay near you in bed. I love to be petted, but it is usually on my own terms. Sometimes I nip a bit when I’m not in the mood for attention, so my new owner would need to know how to read kitty attitude. Therefore, I wouldn’t be very good with younger children. I may be up there in years, but I still love to play. Are you ready to give hope to a poor little old lady and take me into your loving home.

KALUAHA** is a 2-3 yr old female medium hair seal point siames mix with white. Looks like the Ragdoll breed, but is smaller. She does not get along well with the other cats in her foster home. She would like a home by herself or possible one other cat. At this time, until she gets used to her situation, or it changes, she is somewhat crabby. Her new owner would need to be very tolerent of her space until she feels safe. She had come into Animal Control as a stray, so we have no idea what her life was like before.

VIVIAN** I am a long hair black and white male who had been a street kitty for a couple years. I used to chase cars down the neighborhood road to have a warm place to lay my weary bones. But now I have a warm loving home, even if it is only a foster home. I’m a bit timid, but once I feel comfortable, your lap is where I’ll want to be. If you rub my ears and cheeks, I’ll purr up a storm and look at you lovingly with my cute crossed eyes. I will even talk to you if you talk to me first. I was originally adopted from Animal Control in 2003, I am at least 7 years old. My foster Mom tried to contact my past owner, but was unable to. So, here I am, with the hopes of finding a wonderful new indoor home I am a sweet kitty who deserves a home where I’ll be well loved and warm.

JAYDEN* is a DMH orange white tabby male approximately 12 months of age. Initially shy at first, but once he warms up, loves to get attention, play and get his motor running. He is a very sweet boy and gets along great with his fellow roomies. Plays and purrs when is comforable in his surroundings. Loves the laser light. Would probably do better in a quieter home without small children and dogs. Would love to go into a home with another cat.

LOKI* - I had a great life, or so I thought. My first home with kids did not go well so my rescurers made sure my second home didn't have any. And they didn't so I really didn't understand why I got dumped at Animal Control, after 4 years, citing 'he doesn't like babies' when they didn't have any kids. So you'd think when their friends came over with kids, they would just put me in the bedroom so I could grab a nap, I mean, afterall, they knew 4 years ago when they adopted me I had issues with small humans. They didn't even bother contacting the rescue group before being scooped up and thrown away like yesterdays garbage. I'm not a bad kitty, I just don't like children. I get along great with dogs and other cats and I love the company of adults. I'm a couch potatoe, very talkative, affectionate and love laps. I am a 6 year old long-haired Flame Point Siamese and a big boy kitty, and I'm anxiously awaiting a home where I will get the respect I deserve.

LOKI IS IN TRIAL PLACEMENT

MAX** I was an unwanted apartment kitty who got left behind when my prior family moved. A male, medium hair black tabby approx 1-½ yrs old, I am very sweet & cute. I love to be held, sit in your lap, have tummy rubs and will head-butt you for attention. I don’t like dogs a whole lot, I hiss and keep my distance from the foster dogs at my temporary home. Since I am so laid back and tolerant, I don’t think it would be difficult for me to get used to them. However, children and other cats are ok. I have a best buddy, a very shy kitty called Mr. Hoo that I would dearly love to come to my new home with me. There will be no charge for him if he comes with me. Since I have lived outside on my own for so long, I would love an indoor only home where I can get the attention I crave.

TAMMI* -: In my short lifetime, of only 4 or 5 years, I have had multiple litters of kittens. After my last litter was of the age to be ready for new homes, someone dumped us all in the middle of a road in Peters Creek in the middle of the night. Lucky for me a bartender on her way home from work saw us in the road, and traps were put out to catch me and my babies. We all got taken into a nice warm home with lots of love and attention. I don’t much like to be held, but will follow you around and get under your feet at feeding time. I eat quite a bit, since I was an outdoor cat in my prior home, if you can call it a home. I probably lived on mice and birds for a lot of years, so never had food that tasted so yummy. I even love the soft warm beds and sleeping high in the carpeted cat trees...what comfort! I would really love an indoor only home where I can be spoiled and I even wouldn’t mind other cats or dogs (as long as they were friendly).

KIKI** I am a 4-5 year old polydactyl kitty with huge white feet. They call me the Great Hunter of the laser light. I like to cuddle and be held and will sometimes sleep with you on the bed or climb in your lap for attention. Other cats are ok and I also do very well with dogs. Sometimes I curl up on the bed very close to the big dogs, and you know how pesky German Shepherds’ are. Older children are ok too, especially if they play with me. I would really love an indoor home where I can be spoiled and where I can drink out of the sink faucet.

PRECIOUS** I am a 3 year old female tuxedo kitty with a cute black beauty spot on my nose. I’m shy to start out, but will blossom once I feel comfortable in my new surroundings. You’ll have to take my word for it that I’m social and cuddly and love belly rubs. I also like to sleep in bed at night next to you. Other cats & dogs are ok, as long as they are mellow enough not to pick on me. You won’t be sorry if you bring me home and give me a try.

AVALON* is a DSH grey tabby with a black stripe running down her back. Approximately 2 years of age, her life started out very rocky at a very early age when her mother and siblings were dumped out at Eklutna in the fall when they were about 7 weeks of age. Unfortunately only Avalon and her sister could be caught. Avalon and her sister were adopted out into a very careless home where they got outside and the owner did little to get them back inside. Once she was trapped and taken to Animal Control, came back to me where she was starved for attention. She is a very nice cat that does extremely well with other cats. Needs to go into a home with a minimum of one other cat, multiples even better.

HANZEL** is a black & white tuxedo male born May 1st 2010. Very sweet & playful & cuddly. Great with kids and other cats, not sure about dogs. Already neutered and 1st set of vaccines.

HANZEL HAS POTENTIAL PLACEMENT

ACHERON** - I am a very adorable, vocal orange and white tabby kitten. I was found out in the woods when I was about 5 weeks old. I didn’t know how to eat and my tail had been broken, but already healed, in 2 places. So, now I know how to eat, I LOVE canned food and my tail has a couple cute kinks in it. I am very cuddly and extremely playful. I figure I’m about 9 weeks old by now, and ready to go to my new forever home. I am at the age where playing seems to be the most important thing in my life. I am getting neutered on July 28, then can go any time. I love other cats, and have learned to respect the boundaries of older kittys. One of my room mates is a crabby 11 yr old kitty, and I know to leave her alone. I would really like another kitty in my new home to play with. Small children that know how to handle pets are ok, as are dogs that are respectful of small cats.

BETTINA** I am a 2 year old black and white female kitty with a perfect Charlie Chaplin moustache. I am extremely sweet, love to be held & cuddled, and am a fairly good lapcat. Sleeping next to my foster mom in bed and asking for cuddles when we wake up is one of my favorite things. I am ok with most other cats, but it takes me a while to warm up to them. I will pick on the weaker cats. I’d be happier as an only cat, or with only 1 other cat. Dogs are great, I don’t even mind when that pesky German shepherd that is being fostered at my house picks on me. I do get a little bit of an attitude when I get annoyed so I wouldn’t be good with younger children.

SOOKA* is a beautiful dilute LH tortoiseshell, approximately 8 years of age. Returned to rescue after 3 years 8 months because they said she stalked the younger cat. Adjusted in rescue very well. Looking for her lifetime home where she is perhaps an only cat, though doesn't pick on any of the cats she's presently with. Would do best in a home with no children.

SOOKA IS SPONSORED BY BOB BATTON

JEANNIE* is a beautiful black and smoke Persian mix approximately 2 years of age. Pulled out of Animal Control because she had been there for so long. Once she was taken to the vet for her check up, it was determined that she had a raging urinary tract infection that had caused her to have bladder stones that we removed. She is a very sweet cat, purrs freely, is a non stop talker and has adjusted great to being in foster. Has to be on a special urinary tract diet, but it's really not much more expensive then the normal diet fed to the other cats.

MONROE* is a silver DSH tabby right around 3 years of age. A very outgoing, friendly, playful cat with lots of energy. Loves to be around people and tell them exactly what's on his mind. He is quite the talker and very affectionate. Gets along great with everyone and would do very well with small children.

MR MOO** - My life has not been the best, but I’ve made do, and I am a very sweet tolerant kitty. I am bout 5-6 years old, a black and white male. I lived in a trailer park for my whole life. Used to have an owner, she was abusive to me and my cat siblings. So, I simply moved out of her place and in with a neighbor with a kind heart. I am used to being an indoor outdoor kitty. My hair was matted, so now I have this lion cut. It was a bit embarrassing at first, but I am getting used to it. You can see my black cow markings better with the short hair (I am normally a long hair cat). I do talk a lot, don’t you wish you could hear my story (see my photo with me talking)! Children, other cats and dogs are ok. Wouldn’t you like to have a loverboy in your life, I’m ready and willing.

KATIE** - I am an 11 yr old torti point siamese mix girl with beautiful blue eyes. I was given up due to my Mom of my whole life got married and her new spouse was allergic. What a thing to happen to an old girl. I am front declawed. Don’t like other cats so would like to be an only cat if possible. I like to sit in laps, snuggle and play. I have a pancreas problem, so need to be fed Science Diet W/D food. Otherwise I am very healthy and young at heart.

LOVEY** - An 11 year old pointed female kitty with beautiful gold eyes, I look seal point siamese, but am not cuz of my eye color, which makes me very unique and lovely. I sadly came into rescue when my original owner had to move to a nursing home. I was a very spoiled girl for my whole life. I absolutely love to sit in laps, be cuddled and sleep by you. When I go to meet & greets, everyone says how sweet and beautiful I am, but no one yet has wanted to take me home. I do great with the other cats in my foster home, and dogs are ok. Children are lots of fun too. If you adopt me, a young senior citizen, you’ll be very happy with me in your life.

MR HOO** I am an almost 1 yr old male tabby and white kitty who someone dumped in the middle of a road in Peters Creek in the middle of the night Fall of 2009. Lucky for me a bartender on her way home from work saw me and my siblings in the road, and traps were put out to catch us. I was named Mr Hoo cuz when I was in foster to get tamed, I would sit and turn my head like an owl while checking everything out. It has taken me over 6 months to become the loveable boy that I am. I am still easily frightened and like to hide under the bed. I will, however, sleep with you and let you pet my ears and rub my tummy. My bestest buddy is MAX, and I am his shadow. I curl up with him and hang around him as long as he’ll let me. I would love to go to a home with MAX cuz it would make me feel more comfortable in my new surroundings to have a familiar face. If you would love both of us, I am no charge if I go with MAX.
NUGGETT** is a 1-1/2 year old tabby and white male kitty from Nome. He was only 6 months old and an only cat when he started peeing in the house. Being an indoor only cat, they took him to the Vet to get neutered and checked out and they also tried letting him out. Anti depressant drugs helped somewhat, but did not cure the problem. He came into rescue and is still having some issues. Nuggett would be best suited for someone who has a barn and wants a good mouser, and also a cat that is loving and extremely playful. Is there someone out there that is willing to give Nuggett a chance? He will come to you at no charge if you are willing to give him a safe home.

SPICE** I am an approx 1 year old calico kitty rescued from MatSu Shelter. I am very sweet & extremely playful. My favorite toy is a feather. I’m not much of a lap kitty, but I do like to be held for short periods of time. Children, dogs and other cats are ok. I would very much like to be adopted with my sister Spice. If not, I hope I get a home with another cat for me to play with.

SPICE IS IN TRIAL PLACEMENT

CALLI** - For some reason, I found myself raising my litter of kittens under Boyers’ Photos, an abandoned shop in Anchorage. A kind lady who passed by there often saw me, and made the effort to get to know us. When we felt safe enough around her, the kittens went into the cat carrier, and of course, being the good Mom that I am, I followed them in. I got taken to a nice warm home till my babies were weaned, then went into rescue to look for a new home just for me. I am approx 1-2 years old, a short hair torti with lots of white. I am sweet, but you better know how to read my signals when I’ve had enough attention. If you ignore me when I want lovin, I will grab you as you walk by. I love to play. Having to fend for myself, I am quite a mouser and birder. I would love to live indoors only where I can kill stuffed mice or feather toys (I’m really good at this, really!) I’m ok with the other cats and dogs in my foster home. I don’t believe I like smaller children though, but older kids would be ok.

VERA* is a black & white short-haired tuxedo cat who was living on her own for awhile. Her age is estimated to be about 6 years old. She is a talker and a lovebug once she gets comfortable in her environment. Didn't take her long to come out of her shell and become comfortable in her new and safe surroundings. Underweight at first, as she scavenged for food until she trusted someone to pick her up and take her off the streets, but is healthy now. Is a great cat and gets along well with the other cats in the household. Loves to entertain you once she feels secure in her new house.

VERA IS SPONSORED BY JUDITH RICHARDS.

SUZIE** I am an approx 4-5 year old torbi girl with white feet that have extra toes. I get along ok with other cats, but prefer my own company, or that of one other cat. Dogs are tolerable. I wouldn’t be good with small humans as I sometimes have a little bit of a torti attitude. I love to climb on top of the cat tree to watch the world go by and sniff your head as you go by. I like to be petted, but have certain areas that if touched will turn me into a crabby girl. I hate to have my claws cut, you need to sneak up on me and do a few at a time. Since I have been in my new foster home with no other cats and one dog I have been doing extremely well. Once you learn my ins and outs, I can be a great companion.

EVELYN* is a DSH tabby cat approximately 9 years of age. Her previous owners moved out of the apartment and left Evelyn to fend for herself until she was found by the landlord who promptly dropped her off at Anchorage Animal Control. She tolerates the cats she lives with, but would do well in a home as an only child or perhaps one other cat. This roly poly gal needs some stability in her life, someone willing to make a place for her in their home for the rest of her life. Loves to be petted and will pat you on the arm if you stop too soon. Likes attention, but a little reserved around the other cats.

CASEY** I am a 6 year old medium hair torti/tabby mix, with lots of red. I was rescued from Animal Control over a year ago, owner surrendered due to allergies. I think it’s about time I had a home of my own. Since I do get along with other cats, it’s not so bad being in foster, but would love to have my own home with at least one other cat. Young children would not be good for me as I have a little bit of attitude in certain circumstances and small ones would not be able to read my signals to leave me alone. I like to cuddle and sit in your lap or sleep next to you. Sometimes I will sleep on your legs to keep you from leaving me. I like attention. One of my favorite past times is to chase a string or roll all over my catnip toy. I haven’t been around dogs much lately, but I am ok with them. I hate to have my claws cut, and am not into lengthy brushing sessions, so will need to be brushed often. Won’t you find it in your heart to give a middle aged lady a home; I guarantee I’ll be worth your while.

DOTTIE* is a very sweet and loveable DSH black and white female approximately 1 year of age. She is very kitten-like, is very vocal and she doesn't like to be alone. She'd do great in a family situation with older children and with other cats. Is a lovebug and quite the purr machine. Loves to be held and cuddled.

COLA* was originally found as a small kitten with her head stuck in a soda can. Adopted out as a kitten by someone who did not honor his contract, she was trapped and taken to Animal Control because she was left to wander. Cola is a DSH gray tabby approximately 3 years of age. She was very unsure of herself when she came back into rescue, but with each new day, she is out, socializing and starting to talk. She is a great cat who would do well with other cats and probably non-intrusive dogs. Would do better in a home with older children. She spent her first few weeks here hiding in the bathroom cabinet, but now she is out and about.

MANDY** is a sweet short hair tabby left behind at a local boarding kennel when a military couple split up and left town. She took a long time to fit in with all the other cats in her foster home. After 2 long months, she is getting very friendly and will lay on the bed with her person. She still doesn’t like her kitty room mates very much. Mandy must have been an outdoor cat before, as she will try to sneak out the door. Her new person will have to make sure she is safely kept inside. This sweet girl is getting cuddly and will give kitty kisses. She would not be good with children that are too young to be able to read the cats attitude and know her boundries.

LANDON* is a very striking male DLH Lynx Point Siamese who came to us from Animal Control. He does well with the other cats he shares a room with and would probably do fine with kids and perhaps a dog. He is very friendly, outgoing and inquisitive. Adapts great to new environments.

LANDON WAS IN TRIAL PLACEMENT OUT BEHIND CHUGIAK HIGH SCHOOL.HE RIPPED THE SCREEN OFF THE DOOR AND HAS BEEN AWOL SINCE 7/6/09. IF ANYONE SEES HIM, PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP. THANKS
